A CINEPHILE’S NIRVANA
Self-initiated Photography Project
In this photographic story, I am delving into a leisure activity of the recent past, looking at how this once favourite pastime of many and culture is dwindling because of the evolving and fast-changing media landscape and preserving this culture is more than just being nostalgic but as means to continue educating film as an art form.
Alice, one of New Zealand’s last video stores, first opened in 1985 as Alice in Videoland is today a boutique cinema and DVD rental service that celebrates not just the rare and the unusual, but films of all kinds, from all over the world. Its 28,000 title collection is second to none, a comprehensive library where foreign films, documentaries, cult and arthouse titles are showcased alongside the best mainstream film.
